What to do when the job market sucks, during an economic storm?

Well first off, let me start off with what your SHOULD NOT DO list should look like.

the “SHOULD NOT” DO LIST
Don’t lay in bed all day.
Don’t lay around and watch TV all day.
Don’t let the dishes and Laundry pile up…

Why?  Because all these in-activities will only cause you to become more depressed and feeling more and more helpless and out of control of your present situation.

The “SHOULD DO” LIST!!
1)Try to create a list for yourself that helps you feel in control of your situation.

2)Do get up and out of bed everyday, just like you’re going to work, go to the gym and get a good work-out, you finally have the time to spend on yourself.  Who knows how long the economic downturn is going to last, so make the best of your time.  Take care of yourself, so when you go back to work you’ll be the stellar, healthy person you always knew you could be (if you had the time)!  Working out helps you produce lots of serotonin for your brain, which also helps you beat the blues in real time.

3) Network with your former work buddies, colleagues and neighbors like crazy.  One of them is bound to know about the next job opening.  By rubbing elbows with those around you, you just might find that you’re among the first to get re-hired!!  Even so, you cannot over rate networking.  It’s so important when trying to stay plugged and connected to your local job market.  An enormously helpful, when trying to secure a new job.

4) Volunteer your time with a local Non-profit organization.   The time spent helping a non-profit organization can be added to your resume.  Additionally, you will feel like the time you spend working for a non-profit organization instead of pulling a salary, was a time you spent doing something good with your life.  In other words, you are giving selflessly of yourself, for a good cause, I hope.  Actually, if you have the time, volunteer for a second non-profit organization.  You’ll find that they’ll need your services and will help you fill your time.
