Lighthouses

lighthousesToday while waiting in the doctor’s office, I discovered a magazine about Florida lighthouses.  In Florida alone there are at least 29 different Lighthouses.  There are every kind of lighthouses you can imagine.  Florida owning so much coastline, has lighthouses as old as 1842 and as young as 1954.  Most or all of the Lighthouses have been retro fitted to give off Light and radio messages with little to no assistance during severe weather.

a world that no longer remembers their usefulness.  Or the many lives they saved as they guided weary ships in safely without running aground on the rocky coast.  Ages ago, you could still hear stories of ships running aground and losing every man.  After being so close to coming home.

Today lighthouses face the reality of becoming obsolete, even though our ships have improved navigation system, they no longer have a genuine need for a Lighthouse, we who walk on the land still require other kinds of lighthouses to guide us.

Today I was at Cape Canaveral Hospital to see my doctor.  As I got out on the fifth floor I looked out a picture window filled with a view of the sea.  I though, how cold and sad the cool blue water made me fill.  As if the only reality it could offer me was in Davey Jone’s locker.  A cold watery grave.  I remember also thinking these thoughts were a far cry from the Joy I feel when I’m on a hot, sandy beach watching the waves crash in on the sand.  During the holidays it’s easy to fill overwhelmed and even a little blue.  What’s best is to figure out who or what is our lighthouse in this lifetime.  What’s guiding us through troubled waters?  Or how do we find our way in the dark.   For me the things in life I choose to be my lighthouse are God and Family.  Both support me, and help me in troubled waters.  Where would anyone of us be without our family??
